Connecting to the Data Source

[Table of Contents]

The Connect To The Data Source screen prompts you to specify where the source of your data is, i.e. what database your source data is in.

SQL Server

By default, CUBE-it Zero will assume your data is in the database you specified when entering Settings, saving you typing it all out again. And as those Settings are already tested to be valid they can be immediately used. Should you wish to use a different database, even a database on a different server, specify the connection details here. **

Essentially this is just the same information you would use when connecting to the database in SQL Server Management Studio. Use the ellipses button to build the dropdown list of available databases on the server specified.

If you are using the freeware version of CUBE-it Zero, the  server field will be disabled. You can only use data from the same server on which Analysis Services is installed.

Access **

If your source data is in an Access database then click the Microsoft Access tab to tell CUBE-it Zero where your Access database is.

Enter or browse to your Access database to use, or if using a Workgroup File enter the location of the .mdw file and the logon credentials.

If you are using the freeware version of CUBE-it Zero, access to the MS Access connection tab will be disabled.

** NB. Note that connection to a different SQL Server or to Microsoft Access as data sources, require the optional connectivity packs
